Dr. B. Ramana is a senior surgeon with over 20,000 surgeries under his belt. He has a wide experience in both open and laparoscopic surgery. Qualified as MS, DNB, FRCS, his surgical experience includes the laparoscopic and open approaches to all varieties of GI and abdominal surgery, including complex ones like removal of the pancreatic head (Whipple’s operation), the entire colon (proctocolectomy- a procedure done for diseases like ulcerative colitis), etc. Major laparoscopic resections of huge cysts and tumors have also been part of his practice. For examples of his surgical variety and craft, please Visit his You Tube page for his surgical variety and craft demo. Re-do surgeries by the minimal access method are Dr. Ramana’s forté. He has a series of more than 100 revision gall bladder and bile duct surgeries, most of which were initially done by open methods in peripheral/rural centers.

Modern approaches in colo-anorectal disorders is now a major part of Dr. Ramana’s practice, with VAAFT, THD, stapled hemorrhoidectomy and other procedures becoming daily operations. While he has a special fondness towards endoscopic thyroid and parathyroid surgery (even fancying himself as an endocrine surgeon at one time), Dr. Ramana has been sharply focussed on weight loss and obesity since the last few years. He set up the bariatric department at Kolkata’s Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, following which he performed Eastern India’s first laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy in 2006. Presently, he is keen on including all his knowledge (including cooking, nutrition, fitness, exercise science, etc.) together with his bariatric surgical expertise to benefit you. Dr. Ramana was a member of the Editorial Board of the World Journal of Surgery, and is constantly in touch with the latest developments in the world of surgery, weight loss, exercise and nutrition.

Apart from his surgical practice based out of Belle Vue Clinic, Dr. Ramana also visits LivLife Hospitals in Hyderabad, Marks Medical College and Hospital in Dhaka and operates out of Apollo Hospitals, Dhaka as well.

In addition, he teaches strength, mobility and other facets of exercise in Kolkata’s Soul Of Strength, a one-of-its-kind gym in India.
